Portable Document Format (PDF) is a file format created by Adobe Systems in 1993 for document exchange. PDF is used for representing documents in a manner independent of the application software, hardware, and operating system that is used.
Portable Document Format Archiving (PDF/A) is a file format that is in fact a subset of PDF, obtained by leaving out PDF features not suited to long term archiving.
The XML Paper Specification (XPS) is a specification for a page description language and a fixed-document format developed by Microsoft.
